Introduction to the Warwick University
When it was founded in 1964, Warwick University was looked down upon for its links to industry and business. Today, it is one of Britain's leading universities.
Indeed, prime minister Tony Blair has said: "Warwick is a beacon among British universities for its dynamism, quality and entrepreneurial zeal."
Warwick has its own science park and has been building numbers in science and engineering. Other courses such as English, history and law are also rated very highly. The arts centre attracts big name shows and comedians.
Warwick is serious about extending access to higher education and a far higher proportion of students come from the state sector than at Leeds or Nottingham, for example.
The university campus is close to Coventry and Leamington Spa. It also boasts a monster students' union with bars and entertainments that will make your head spin.
Among the alumni of this standard-bearer of the 1960s are novelist Anne Fine and politicians Kim Howells and Estelle Morris.
